RIDES

Banyule BUG offers five scheduled rides each week, organized by two informal groups in the club – the Latte and Lycra Groups respectively. You’re welcome to join any of these rides – choose a route and go for it! Plus occasional country and overnight events. Most scheduled rides have a leader and Tail-end Charlie.

Please check our Ride Protocols document for guidelines on group riding. A full Calendar of this month ride can be found below as well as a comprehensive list of the club’s rides

The Latte Group

The larger of BBUG’s two informal groups, Latte ride express their interest directly in the group’s title — the preference for cafes, coffee, croissants and conversation.

The Latte Group run two scheduled rides every week, on Tuesday and Friday. The latter include some specifically “short and slow” rides of 20-30 km.

Some 20-30 riders turn up for most Latte sessions. They split into two groups and start ten minutes apart to avoid congestion.

From March to December rides depart 9.20 and 9.30 am. 8.20 and 8.30 am in Jan and Feb. Rides can be cancelled if extreme weather conditions are forecast; routes may be altered to fit conditions. Programs are published tri-monthly. Click on the link below for the current program.

Lycra Group

This group claim to ride further and faster but, to be honest, that’s a total fantasy. They also end up at cafes sipping coffee eating snacks and spinning tall stories.

Three scheduled rides run every week — Tuesday, Thursday and the special Short and Social Sunday for those with busy weekdays. Thursday’s ride is “leaderless” – same 40 km loop every week, including a stop at the ever-popular Petty’s Café for drinks & snacks.

From March to November rides usually start at 9 am; for December to February they switch to an 8.15 am start to beat the heat. Rides can be cancelled for extreme weather events and may be tweaked en route, in response to the day’s conditions Programs are published bi-monthly. Click on the link below for the current program.
